Gosh... The sun persists!!! Amazing. I was out in The Garden from 10:00AM... It was -7C last night. Any earlier an exit would have required long-johns!!! And yes, I let drip a faucet all night to have O2 in the morning... and worked steadily until 4PM. That is The Anointed Hour to w-a-l-k The Dog. Then, he gets fed. Shower, shave, make the bed, write on my blogs. There. My Day!!!
Nevertheless, one of today's Winter Gardening Tasks was to de-nude this tree, un albero di Vimini. In other words, if I am ever so bored out of my ever-living-mind to take up basket weaving, then, I will have the branches to do so. Yep. Like WOW!!! The branches need to be whacked-off so new ones will start to sprout towards February. That is right around the proverbial calendar corner. In the term of a spring & summer, the branches will grow to the perfect length for weaving. It is important that they also not grow too thick. Otherwise, the branches tend to snap. Not good. Anyway, here's the Before...
And now, the After. Those things sticking up are branches I left... but, not out of the Goodness of My Heart. No. Well, yes, but anyway... I left them to give the Vimini something else to do... like grow taller, bigger, healthier... besides just sprouting long thin branches which can poke eyes out or eat badminton birdies.
The cut branches are collected & bound up into sheaths for future use. A very long & thin branch is used to tie things up. It's kind of akin to calf roping but not anywhere near as exciting. Safer too. Gads.
